History of Service
1984
National Health Education Project (NHEP) is started as a program of Visiting Nurse Home Health (VNHHC).
Respite services provided.
1985
Chore, COPES and Health Maintenance Programs are started.
1987
NHEP separates from VNHHC to form its own (501)c3 non-profit agency known as Visiting Nurse Home Care. VNPS and VNHHC are sister agencies under the corporate umbrella of Visiting Nurse of Washington (VNOW).
1989
VNPS joins with Homewell Health Services in Skagit county. Personal Care Program is started.
1991
Visiting Nurse Foundation is developed.
1992
VNOW agencies move from location on Cornwall Avenue to Birchwood Building.
1993
VNHHC & Hospice join with Affiliated Health Services of Skagit County. VNPS remains as a "subsidiary" corporation of AHS/Home Health and relieved of $200,000 debt to Home Health. Administrative staff are hired by AHS and contracted back to VNPS.
1995
VNPS contracts with Whatcom County for Jail Health Program.
1999
CEO position increases from .25 to 1.0 FTE. AHS releases contracted staff back to VNPS.
VNPS takes over public influenza vaccination clinics from Whatcom County Health Department.
VNPS becomes accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
2001
Relationships end with AHS and Visiting Nurse Foundation. VNPS is independent for first time in agency history.
2002
VNPS develops new "RN Care Management" program.
HealthWatch emergency response system is added to services.
2003
VNPS develops "Cluster Care" program to support seniors in community retirement living situations.
